He is Me

I said, “Tell me, Old Man, on the level,
what would you say to you as a child?
Would you still make that deal with the Devil
if you could go back in time?”

He said, “If I was Adam
standing in the Garden with Eve
God knows I would have eaten the apple.
How else could I believe?”

I’m that child, in the wild and free,
I don’t know if I believe
He is me..

Just as I was leaving,
He stopped me at the door.
He said, “I’ll tell you the reason for living
if you promise to listen to me more.”

So I take off a running.
Just now. He’s not far behind.
Some day, I might have it coming
if I can go back in time.

I’m that child, running wild and free,
I don’t know if I bleieve
He is me..
