Town to Town

Can’t go to Yale, doesn’t mean I’d fail,
It’s just one thing I can’t afford.
Sheriff’s not on my trail. I can’t even go to jail.
What have I found this New Haven for?

You can know yourself too well,
til you got nothing to say,
No one to tell …..town to town.

Found myself in Memphis, broken and tired,
My eyes turning away from the Lord.
Woke up in the morning, not knowin’ how I got there,
Face down on the shore.

Mercy mercy me, I wonder where I’m travelin’
Here come the cold November stars.
Don’t gotta go home, but I can’t stay here.
Wherever you go there’s your bars.

Oh me oh Miami, freight train gonna bring me
My baby better take me in,
Or else I’m on my way back to Santa Fe
Where I can lay low til the heat come again.
